Virus Tensei Kara Isekai Kansen Monogatari Ch. 16 – A Virus That’s Helpful

The carriage had toppled over, with wooden crates and barrels that appeared to be cargo scattered across the ground.

It must’ve been transporting something.

The coachman was trying his best to reign in a rampaging horse.

Apart from that, there were several armed men fighting against a pack of Wolves.

They were probably the escorts, as they fought with their backs to one another.

There weren’t any corpses, so it seemed nobody had died as of yet.

The Wolves numbered around 20.

They had been attacking cooperatively with their high speed.

They were doing quite well, they’d keep a good amount of distance and attempt to kill an escort whenever an opportunity arises.

(What should I do about this…)

The Wolves were the overwhelmingly dominant force here.

The escorts were all injured in some manner, their strength and stamina all but depleted.

They’d inevitably be wiped out if things continued.

Sword in hand, I cracked my neck.

(Well… I suppose I should help)

Upon seeing the scene, I had already decided to help.

Leaving now would just be ruthless, and it’d be a good idea to rack up some good deeds before entering the city.

Sliding down the hill, I quickly made my way over to the guards.

Letting out a warcry may have drawn the wolves attention, but doing so might’ve given away the fact that I’m a monster.

So even if I were to save them, they’d just see me as a monster as well and attack me.

I was already feeling the constraints of Human society.

(I’ll have to act inconspicuously, which means fighting normally…)

It’d be heavily suspicious if I were to start flinging lightning bolts and acid everywhere.

As long as Humans were watching, I had no choice but to fight using the safer symptoms.

Well, it was only a pack of wolves.

Even a brute force tactic would work, I’d acquired at least that much strength.

As I continued down the hill, I strengthened myself with various symptoms.

Additionally, I developed [Secrecy I] and [Presence Concealment I] in order to approach without being noticed.

(To start it off, I’ll strike…!)

I swung my sword at a Wolf that had its back turned to me.

“-gyain-!” (TL: *whimpering noises*)

The Wolf raised a high-pitch death rattle, as its torso was bisected by my sword.

The innards and blood stained the ground, as the Wolf weakly tried to move, and eventually died.

I grabbed a nearby Wolf’s neck, and stabbed my sword

directly below its chin.

The Wolf, whose head had been pierced, rolled back its eyes and died instantly.

I kicked the corpse off my blade, and repositioned myself.

(――Two down)

By that point, the Wolves had finally realized my presence.

They hurried to maintain some distance, growling in order to threaten me, but I felt their response was a little slow.

Their growling wasn’t enough to scare me.

At the same time, the escorts had also been surprised to see me.

A sharply-toned question rang towards me.

“Wh-Who are you?”

“We… can, ta…lk abo…ut it, la…ter”

I rambled a little due to how nervous I was, but it probably made sense.

I then moved myself to a position away from the carriage, and taunted the Wolves.

“Gao, gao!”

“Grrrrr!”

The Wolves shifted their attention to me, and began chasing.

They seemed to recognize me as an enemy that they needed to deal with sooner rather than later.

That was fine, it would’ve been bad if the escorts were attacked again due to them dividing upn their numbers.

If they all came together, I could kill them as a group.

The moment I joined the fray, the battle had already been decided.

A two-meter infection radius through exhalation.

The Wolves, who completely lacked any ranged methods of attack, had no way to avoid being infected by the virus if they wanted to fight.

Not knowing this, a Wolf lunged at me.

I struck the tip of its nose with my palm, while infecting it with the virus.

“-gyain-“

The Wolf had been blown away, spurting blood.

It tried to get up, but the combination of [Paralysis I] and [Muscle Relaxant I] stifled the Wolf’s movements.

From an outsider’s perspective, it just looked as if it were due to the palm strike.

That was the natural progression.

You’d never assume symptoms involved with a viral infection would ever be what incapacitated the Wolf.

While I had been satisfied with the results, I was suddenly jolted from an impact behind me.

Fishy breath drifted from behind, and a Wolf’s rough breathing could be heard.

I had apparently been bitten from behind.

I wondered how he managed to get around while trying to shake him off, but the fangs dug too deeply into my armor and wouldn’t detach.

However, it was easy to infect something at such a close range.

I infected the Wolf behind me with the virus, and simultaneously developed [Nerve Pain I].

Gya” (TL: *yelping noises*)

A stifled scream had been let out, and the pressure behind me weakened.

Immediately following this, I grabbed the Wolf with my free-hand, pulled it off of me, slammed it against the ground and threw it at another Wolf that had been approaching.

The Wolves violently collided, bouncing and rolling onto the ground, still connected.

In such a situation, a full body fracture would definitely occur.

They wouldn’t recover.

“Grrrrrr…”

“Bark, bark!”

The Wolves that remained became cautious once they saw the fate of their companions.

They simply snarled, not even attempting to approach.

They had become reluctant, perhaps they were scared of me even though I had been adjusting myself to come across as normal.

“Yo..u are…n’t com…ing? The…n I… will co…me to yo..u”

The guards had their attention focused on us, so I needed to finish up soon in order to treat their wounds.

Playing with my sword, I began to dashingly slash at them.
